Hope for the Defenseless

Pastor Gary provides words of encourgment for everyone. We have God on our side!

President Franklin Roosevelt told America at the start of World War II, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” How true those words were, not only then, but for us today. Remember the words of King David in the 23rd Psalm verse 4, when he had plenty of reasons to be fearful, yet he said, “I will fear no evil.” He knew God was with him.

Also, Psalm 46:1-2 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear.”   This is a time when we need to draw closer to God and His Word. That is where our real refuge is found. Remember that anonymous saying, “Fear knocked on the door. Faith answered. No one was there.” Fear may knock on your door, but if your faith is strong, no one will be there either. Proverbs 2:33 says, “But whoever listens to Me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” Remember the promise God makes to us in Hebrews 13:5b, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

We need to put our trust and faith in God. When we go through the trials and tribulations of life God wants us to turn to Him, draw closer to Him, and trust in Him, so we get stronger.

This certainly is a challenging time for all of us, and especially for all of us seasoned citizens. However, this is a time for us to remember what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Let Jesus carry that burden for you, turn to Him and know that He is there for you.

David Jeremiah had these words for us when we are fearful that he wrote in a devotional. “When we are afraid, God longs for us to call out to Him so He can wrap us in His loving arms. God want us to know Him intimately as our wonderful, protective Father. The closer we draw to him, the more we can trust in His perfect love. Today let His perfect love throw away your fears. As you do, you will feel His loving arms wrapping around you with comfort, consolation, and compassion.”

So, you see, we are not hopeless, helpless of defenseless. Yes, because of our age and overall health condition we need to be careful and follow the advice and guidelines from the CDC and other health officials for our own safety. But God also gives us some steps we can all take in these times. They are found in the Book of Philippians, chapter 4 verses 4-7. Step one—“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again rejoice!” Step two—“Do not be anxious about anything.” Step three—"but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present you requests to God.” Finally, what will result—verse seven, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” So, rejoice in the Lord, don’t be anxious about anything, pray and petition God and give Him thanks and His peace will guard you.

This is God’s step by step way to overcome fear and anxiety. Remember we at Harvest are here to help and serve you. God bless each of you and stay close to God.
